How to Add Multi-Recipient Ordering to Your Shopify Store

Set up Send To Many from scratch. Install the app, configure your first send preset, add multi-recipient checkout to your theme, and run a test Send to verify everything works.

This tutorial walks you through setting up Send To Many on your Shopify store from the very beginning. By the end, you'll have the app installed, a send preset configured for your primary use case, multi-recipient checkout live on your storefront, and a completed test Send confirming everything works.

Before You Start

You need a Shopify store on any plan (Free through Enterprise). If you're setting up checkout for the first time, it helps to have a product published to your online store so you can run a test order.

Step 1: Install Send To Many

  1. Go to the Send To Many listing on the Shopify App Store.
  2. Click Install and authorize the app.
  3. Once installed, open Send To Many from your Shopify admin sidebar.

The app opens to the home screen with options to create a Send, configure settings, and set up checkout.

Step 2: Configure Your First Send Preset

Send presets are templates that control how orders are generated, how payment is collected, and how notifications are handled. Send To Many includes three built-in presets: Corporate Gifting, Influencer Seeding, and General Import. You can use these as-is or create your own.

  1. In Send To Many, go to Settings > Send Presets.
  2. Review the built-in presets. For most merchants starting with corporate gifting, the Corporate Gifting preset is the right choice. It collects payment via an aggregate invoice before generating recipient orders.
  3. Click a preset to review its settings. Key options include:
    • Order revenue handling: Whether recipient orders show calculated prices or $0
    • Shipping method: Calculated rates, free shipping, or custom rates
    • Notification suppression: Whether Shopify sends order/shipping emails to recipients
    • Auto-generate on payment: Whether orders generate automatically when the invoice is paid

For your first setup, the defaults work well. You can always adjust these later. See Send Presets and Generation Settings for details on every option.

Step 3: Add Multi-Recipient Checkout to Your Theme

If you want customers to send to multiple recipients directly from your storefront, add the checkout block to your theme.

Add the checkout page

  1. In Send To Many, go to the Multi-recipient checkout page.
  2. Click Edit in theme editor to open Shopify's theme editor with the Send To Many block ready.
  3. Alternatively, go to Online Store > Themes > Customize, create a new page template, and add the Send To Many: Multi-Recipient Checkout section.

Create a page

  1. Go to Online Store > Pages and create a new page.
  2. Assign it the template that contains the Send To Many checkout block.
  3. Set a title (e.g., "Send to Multiple Recipients") and save.

Add the cart button

  1. In the theme editor, navigate to your Cart page template.
  2. Add the Multi Checkout Button block.
  3. Enable Auto format (copies your theme's checkout button styling) and Auto position (places the button under your checkout button).
  4. Save.
Drawer and slide carts

The button works with drawer carts, slide-out carts, and flyout carts. If it doesn't appear automatically in your cart drawer, see Adding Send To Many to a Drawer or Slide Cart for a quick fix.

Step 4: Set Up the Inquiry Form (Optional)

If you want to capture corporate gifting requests from your storefront, add the inquiry form.

  1. In Send To Many, go to Inquiry Form settings.
  2. Configure your form fields: contact information, product interest, quantity, date needed, and any custom fields.
  3. In your Shopify theme editor, add the Send To Many Inquiry Form section to a page template.
  4. Create a page (e.g., "Corporate Gifting" or "Bulk Orders") and assign the template.
  5. Add the page to your store navigation so customers can find it.
  6. Set up notification emails so your team is alerted when new inquiries come in.

See Configuring the Inquiry Form for details on field configuration.

Step 5: Run a Test Send

Run a test Send using the upload workflow to confirm everything is connected and working.

  1. Open Send To Many and click Create Send.
  2. Enter a Send name (e.g., "Setup Test").
  3. Select a billing customer. You can use yourself or a test customer.
  4. Choose your send preset (e.g., Corporate Gifting).
  5. Upload a test spreadsheet with 2-3 recipients. Use this sample Google Sheet or your own file with at least name, address, city, state, and zip columns.
  6. Confirm the column mapping and click Continue.
  7. Select a product from your catalog and click Continue.
  8. Review validated addresses. Accept any corrections and click Continue.
  9. Apply shipping rates and click Continue.
  10. Review the Send summary and click Generate Invoice (for Corporate Gifting) or Process all orders (for General Import or Influencer Seeding).

After generation, check the Send summary page and verify that orders appear in your Shopify admin.

Step 6: Test Multi-Recipient Checkout (If Enabled)

If you added checkout in Step 3, test the full shopper flow.

  1. On your storefront, add a product to your cart.
  2. Click the Send to Multiple Recipients button on the cart page.
  3. Add 2-3 test recipients with valid addresses.
  4. Complete the Shopify checkout with a test payment method.
  5. In Shopify admin, confirm that the gifter order and recipient orders were created correctly.
